Deception Pass State Park Elopement
Have you ever seen such a beautiful morning elopement? There’s something that’s just so lovely about getting up early and using that stunning sunrise light, especially when it’s at a location as amazing at Deception Pass State Park. I hadn’t spent a ton of time around Anacortes in my first 2 years living here, but Deception Pass is one of my favorite places in the entire state. When these two told me all about their elopement (and then their new plan when COVID hit!), I was the kind of excited where you want to jump up and down. What can I say, I love my job 😍
Picking up your business and moving to a state where you don't know anyone is one of the most difficult things I've had to do. Making new contacts, meeting new vendors, and somehow trying to find people to hire you is a constant uphill climb. But that just makes it even more special when you DO find clients, especially when they're people that you click with from day one.
D&H let me in on their vision to get married at Deception Pass last year, and even though COVID changed plans a little, but they still put together a stunningly beautiful and very intentional wedding day. I fall in love with Deception Pass a little bit more every time I'm there by finding a new trail to walk, a new cliff to stare at, or a more vibrant sunset to watch.
Starting with a first look at Cap Sante Park, I knew this was going to be one hell of a beautifully styled elopement. I mean, just LOOK at D's bouquet??! We headed into Deception Pass for some more portraits that I personally think could be in a chic wedding magazine just based on their wedding attire alone (not biased, obv). We took a few family photos and got started with the ceremony, which was just as intentional as every other part of the day.
That's one thing that fundamentally draws me to elopements- a couple breaking down some traditions of a wedding and only keeping the parts they truly want, PLUS adding a little of their own flair to make it alllllllll about them. It's perfectly personalized and meaningful all at once.
Shout out to D&H for being SO welcoming and treating me like any other family member at the wedding. We've created some of my favorite elopement images and it's all thanks to your careful consideration of the sunrise and for truly just being a sweet but badass couple.

“We hired Van for our September 2020 wedding. Van captured our wedding perfectly. We've already framed some of the photos and each time we look at them they give us so much joy.
We really valued the communication especially with all the unexpected changes and challenges this year. Her warm personality made it easy to voice concerns considering COVID without making the entire experience about the pandemic.
Our biggest concern when hiring a photographer was capturing the right feel of our wedding and jiving with the photographer's personality and style. We knew Van was a good fit right from the start just by looking at her previous work. Once we sent a few emails back and forth, we immediately knew we that she understood and could execute our vision.
If you are considering Van, I recommend reaching out to her! She is so incredibly talented and easy to work with”
